The Mountain & Plains Border Collie Association is dedicated to maintaining the border collie as a working stockdog while ensuring the well-being of the dogs and the livestock. We seek to promote the border collie as the working stockdog it has been bred to be for hundreds of years; educate the public on the abilities, working characteristics, variations in type, and recognized registries for the breed; and encourage organized work sessions, fun days, clinics, and trials so members can develop their dogs to the fullest extent of their natural abilities.
Welcome to the site!

A dog will look at you as if to say, "What do you want me to do for you? I’ll do anything for you." Whether a dog can, in fact, do anything for you ... is another matter. The dog is willing.

Roger Culbreath passed away on December 23, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer. Roger was a pioneer of the stockdog community in Colorado, and he was a past president of the USBCHA as well as a founding member of the Mountain & Plains Border Collie Association, where his vision and direction is felt to this day. We've lost a great friend to the border collie, a true gentleman, and a wealth of knowledge about the partnership between stockdog and handler. Roger has influenced generations of handlers, and he will be greatly missed by people in the stockdog community throughout North America. We were lucky to have him in our part of the country, and his passing leaves an immense void. Cards can be sent to his wife Nancy and the rest of his family at the following address:
Nancy Culbreath
County Road 55
Gill, CO 80624
In addition, Roger's family has set up an email account for those wishing to express their condolences at WordsForRoger@gmail.com. It is a hectic time of year, and this is an easy way to let Roger's family know he is missed.
In lieu of flowers, Roger's family is asking that a donation be made to the Roger Culbreath Memorial Fund at the American Border Collie Association to aid in research.
Make checks to the ABCA and address the envelopes to:
Roger Culbreath Memorial Fund

Congratulations to our own Tina LePlatt for being voted USBCHA Rookie of the Year at the 2011 National Sheepdog Finals! Tina and her amazing Tess had a truly phenominal run in the preliminary round and a very respectable showing in the semifinals—they did Colorado proud! We're also proud of our other Colorado handlers who worked hard all year to qualify and compete in our National Finals: Dan Keeton, Keith Fassbender, Terri Warner, Jim Swift, Larry Adams, Bridget Strang, and Lise Anderson! Well done, everyone!

Our last fun day work session took place on Sunday, October 16, at Jon and Jackie Robertson's place in south Denver. The event was a great success, with several new members and veterans alike working their dogs. We're currently scheduling new work sessions and fun trials for the winter into the new year, so stay tuned for details to come!
