Activities Committee Letter

Dear (current & former) Mountain & Plains Border Collie Association members,

About a month ago several of us who were concerned about the lack of Mountain and Plains Border Collie Association activities formed an activities committee with Carol Lucero as chair. Our goal is to put together club activities that are reasonably priced and that provide border collies and handlers at all levels an opportunity to increase their own and their dogs' herding skills. This letter is being sent out to let you know about these activities and update you on some of the current news regarding the club. Some of you may also be confused by the letter sent out by the officers of a new herding club. Unfortunately the letters that went out from the new group did not make it clear that the new club has no connection to Mountain and Plains Border Collie Association. The new club is going by two different names: Mountain & Plains Stock Dog Association and Rocky Mountain Stock Dog Association. There is no connection with Mountain & Plains Border Collie Association even though the president and vice president of the new club currently serve as president and vice president of MPBCA. We want to assure current and former members that MPBCA will continue as an active and independent club with its historic goal of supporting the Border Collie as a working dog.

Club Activities

We want all current members, and those of you who have not yet renewed, to know about the activities we have planned for the spring and summer.

  •     April 18: Penning Clinic with Roger Culbreath at Nancy Penley's place
  •     May 2: Ranch Handling Skills at Cathy Balliu's place
  •     June 26: Novice Work Day at Bob & Irene Stoller's
  •     June Date to be Announced:  Fun Trial at Lise Anderson's
  •     June Date to be Announced: Fun Day or Fun Trial at Pam Bruns’s place

All activities will cost $25 per dog with a $5 discount for members. If you have not renewed your membership, you can bring your application to any of these activities or mail it to our secretary, Carol Lucero. There will be limited working entries for the April penning clinic. Spectator charge for that clinic will be $10. Please contact Bob at 303-651-2039 or robert.stoller@colorado.edu to sign up.

We are also looking for additional venues for club events, particularly in the south metro and Colorado Springs areas as well as ideas from all members for new types of activities. If you have an idea, or a venue that you would like to share, or if you want to join the committee, please contact Bob Stoller.

Website Update

Over the last month or so Dale has found it very difficult to update the website because of his hospitalization. He hopes to be home shortly and to bring things on the website up to date. In the meantime Carol is assisting him.  If you want something on the website, please email Carol Lucero at acarol.lucero369@gmail.com so that she can format items for the website to make posting them easier for Dale. Until he is feeling well enough to update the website regularly, we will be using email and phone calls to contact you.

Happy herding from the Activities Committee,

Carol Lucero (chair)
Bob & Irene Stoller
Nancy Penley
Elaine Wood
Laura Esterman
Pam Bruns
